Examples of Executive Cars -An executive car is a large car. Its size is equivalent to that of an American full-size luxury sedan and European E-segment. It is generally larger than the compact executive cars, but smaller than full-size luxury sedans. Some examples of executive cars are the Volvo S90, Lexus ES, and Saab 9000. Here’s a quick rundown of the main features and functions of these cars.
Volvo S90
The Volvo S90 is a premium executive car with an excellent range of advanced powertrains. The conventional petrol engine is capable of 316 hp, while the T8 eAWD powertrain uses an electric motor to produce 400 hp and 472 lb-ft of torque. Moreover, this luxury car is the most affordable executive car with a petrol engine. The range of petrol engines available for the S90 is impressive, with a range of up to six litres.
The S90 features an impressive array of standard safety equipment, with many world firsts in safety. The Volvo S90 is equipped with a front-collision-avoidance system that has never been tested by the NHTSA. The S90 offers extensive standard safety features, including active lane-control and blind-spot monitors. It also features the award-winning T6 engine and a clean, powerful plug-in hybrid.
Lexus ES
The Lexus ES is a luxurious executive car with a price that starts at PS39k and goes up to PS52k. It is designed for those who don’t enjoy driving but still appreciate mpg, fancy mirrors, and a smooth ride. The ES is a hybrid, which helps to keep its tax rate low and provides a symphony of luxury for its price.
While the ES has a quiet cabin and comfortable ride, it makes a big step forward in handling and interior quality. The ES’ V6 is paired to an eight-speed automatic transmission, which contributes to its linear power delivery and prompt throttle response. A Lexus ES with the highest score in the IIHS’s crash test is a fine choice for executives or businessmen. Moreover, Lexus has a long history of creating executive vehicles that are both classy and reliable.
The cabin of the Lexus ES feels plush, with plenty of legroom for long-legged passengers. The seats are supportive and comfortable, and the cabin is quiet, even at highway speeds. Though the ES does not come with a fold-down rear seat, it still has a generous trunk space, which is above average for its class. Its spacious trunk has 17.0 cubic feet of space, which is much more than rival cars. However, there is no fold-down rear seat, so it is not ideal for those who need to transport a lot of cargo.
Rolls Royce Wraith
A rolls Royce Wraith is a luxury executive car with great power and impressive features. The Wraith’s long hood can be a hindrance, but two front cameras provide a panoramic view, making maneuvering around small objects more precise. A high-speed satellite transmission is also available. The Wraith’s fuel efficiency is rated at G-efficient. While this luxury car may not be the most fuel-efficient, it is still a great choice for those who need the best in comfort and power.
The Wraith will no longer be sold in the United States, though it will continue to be offered by Rolls-Royce in other countries. The company plans to discontinue the Wraith after the 2021 model year, though the luxury brand is still planning to sell it in the future, possibly under a new name. However, its options will be limited, and it’s unclear if the Wraith will be available in the United States again.
Saab 9000
The Saab 9000 was the first executive car produced by the Swedish company. The car was launched in the early 1980s as a four-door sedan. Later versions included a talladega variant in honour of the 1986 Long Run. The car was available with a turbo engine, a fully computerised electronic ignition system and as a sports version, a Saab DI. The base model was powered by a 2.3-liter turbo engine.
The 9000 was the last ‘true’ Saab model. The car was available as a five-door liftback. Although it had no engine options, the manual version was capable of 138mph. The 0-60 mph sprint was also faster, taking 7.7 seconds. The mid-range acceleration was even more impressive. Despite this, the Saab 9000 was regarded as one of the most advanced executive cars of its time.
While the 9000 was the most mainstream Saab in terms of looks, it was also the most popular and well-built. It boasted a smooth and aerodynamic four-door body, a rounded hood line, and a thinner radiator grille. Its headlights were also upgraded, and its rear bumper was integrated into the body. It had a nice looking alloy wheel set, complemented by Michel P 195/65-R15 tires.
Saab 9-5
The Saab 9-5 is a luxury sports sedan that combines high-end executive car features with sporty driving dynamics. Available in a sedan and a wagon, the Saab 9-5 is comfortable and spacious, and is equipped with a plethora of standard features. Although not a mainstream brand, the Saab 9-5 is a top choice for those seeking a luxury sedan with the performance and refinement of a high-end sports car.
The interior is familiar to current Saab owners, and features ergonomically correct switchgear and clear gauges. Its fake wood is somewhat outdated, and the center console start button isn’t ergonomically correct. However, its spacious and comfortable rear seats make the ride a pleasure, and it offers more leg room than many sedans. The trunk is also huge, almost a wagon-like option. However, many people don’t want to spend too much money on an executive sedan.
The Saab 9-5 has a striking look and a smooth ride. The smooth exterior is a step up from the previous generation. Its upscale bluish tint highlights the front end, and optional 18-inch alloy wheels highlight the thick C-pillar and high deck lid. Full width LED taillights set the stoic rear end. The car is also available with a manual transmission. Its top-of-the-line Saab 9-5 is no longer on sale, so a new model is needed.
Saab 9-3
The Saab 9-3 was introduced in 2003 and was offered in three trim levels: Vector, Arc, and Aero. The Vector was sportier and featured a 210 horsepower version of the same engine. Arc and Aero models were renamed in 2005. The Saab 9-3 is still one of the best-selling luxury cars in the world. It has received numerous awards for its style and efficiency.
The most notable change for the Saab 9-3’s engine was the B204L, which is based on the last-generation Saab 900. The B204L was the standard offering, while the B204R was an option. The Saab 9-3 also received a revamped engine management system in 2003, and its turbocharged petrol engine was the first in a Saab vehicle.
The dashboard is a typical Saab feature. The instrument panel blends into the center console. Instruments are laid out in an easy-to-read manner and have an airplane-like look. The dash is comparatively high, which is another Saab styling cue. The controls are small, but easy to reach and use, thanks to the ergonomic design and high-quality materials. The Saab 9-3 comes with a full leather interior package that costs an extra $1500.
Saab 9-4
The Saab 9-4X is a very nice executive car. Its interior is unlike the usual Cadillac, with a sea of black plastic and matrix vents. However, the backlighting on the instrument panel is the typical Saab green. The fit and finish is good, but the quality is not up to Mercedes-Benz or Audi Q5 standards. The interior space is ample and on par with Volvo XC60, though the optional panoramic sunroof may slouch the driver.
The Saab 9-4X will go on sale in the US and UK in May and other world markets in the fourth quarter. It will arrive in Australia around 12 months after the 9-4X in the US. The 9-3 will join the reinvigorated Saab line-up, with new stock of the 9-3 sedan and sportcombi arriving later in 2011.
Peugeot 604
When the Peugeot 604 was launched in 1975, it was positioned above the 504 and the Renault 30 as Peugeot’s top model. Designed by Pininfarina, it was a discreet touring car with ample space and comfort. This French luxury car was one of the first attempts by Peugeot to tap into the premium car market before World War II. The Peugeot 604 is a fine example of the company’s dedication to quality and innovation.
The 604’s interior was a mixed bag, but it had plenty of room and a smooth ride. Its seats were padded and comfortable, and it had a spacious boot. You could even add optional leather trim and add electric windows, locking, and a sunroof. The car also came standard with a multi-function steering wheel and a reversing camera. However, it did not receive the same level of praise from critics as its rivals.
In addition to the executive models, the 604 was also available in the form of a limousine. A limousine version of the 604 was made by Heuliez and featured two extra movable seats. This model was produced from 1978 to 1984. Although it was not an instant hit, the 604 was still an exceptional car. It’s still a popular vehicle today, thanks to its impressive economy numbers. But while it’s no roaring V6, it was still one of the most reliable large cars of its day.
