Birmingham City University (BCU) is made up of four faculties, each covering a range of subjects and specialties including Arts, Design & Media; Business, Health, Education and Life Sciences, Law and Social Sciences; engineering, Computer science, and the built environment. Eleven Birmingham City University staff are currently National Teaching Fellows – the most prestigious award for excellence in university teaching and learning.

A night out at the theater with friends is another great way to spend an evening. Birmingham’s theater district offers a wide selection of venues including the Hippodrome, Rep, Crescent Theatre, New Alexandra, Old Joint Stock, Blue Orange Theatre, Midland Arts Center, and Hall Green Little Theater. See a Movie on the Super Screens
Additionally, Birmingham has some great spots for a night out at the movies. The city has two oversized screens: Cineworld’s IMAX screen in Broad Street and the giant screen. Which is housed in the Thinktank science museum in Millennium Point and has the largest screen in the Midlands.
There’s also the sleek, more intimate setting of The Electric, the UK’s oldest operating cinema. It doesn’t sell popcorn. But it does offer canapes, handmade cakes, bar, and waiter service, and features a mix of mainstream, indie, foreign, and classic films.
Shop Till You Drop
Birmingham offers retail therapy bags. In the city center, there are the bullring, the letterbox, the pavilions, and the palisades, as well as all the busy shopping streets in between.
There are also the Bullring Markets, including the famous Birmingham Rag Market (Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday 9am-5pm, Saturday 9am-5.30pm). Which has 350 stalls and is the perfect place to pick up a bargain. Additionally, a fantastic hub of independent retailers – offering alternative, vintage, and high street fashion, accessories, piercing, nails, tattoos, and games. In the nearby Jewelers’ Quarter, there are over 100 specialty jewelry retailers, designers, and artisans, making. It is a wonderful place to explore and find the perfect gift. Many retailers have on-site workshops, so a special gift can be ordered on the spot. Contemporary and designer jewelry is in abundance and there’s a bustling art scene with galleries, bridal shops, gift shops, and fashion specialists.
Visit the Creative Quarter at Digbeth’s Custard Factory
Also, the Custard Factory is Birmingham’s creative district. Just 800 paces from the Bull Ring, this 15-acre riverside mill sprawl was built 100 years ago by Sir Alfred Bird, the inventor of custard. At one point he had a thousand people making things. The old factories have been restored in a new downtown area with green spaces, fountains, and sculptures.
